I have named every car I have ever owned. Honestly, I don’t think many people know I do. For some reason, I use it as a secret magical name, in almost incantation like form to implore it to not breakdown, make it to the gas station after being on “E” for hours, after it’s washed and clean, or performed some impressive task.

My current vehicle, a green Tahoe, is named Lantern.
Yea, my comic geek flag is flying.

Hey, wait… I don’t normally name my vehicles, but I have always thought of all of them as my horses. I talk to them when they need it, and sometimes I even see them as horses in my mind’s eye.

And for the record, yes, all the Classic Mustangs I’ve owned had names. The ‘65 Fastback that I posted about here I named Sorcerer (’cause driving it was like magic to me), and the ‘66 Coupe I owned didn’t officially have a name, but I always called it Midnight (because it was Midnight Blue).

If someday I ever get to own my ‘66 Shelby 350H dream car, the name for it is obvious: Black Magic.

Erth, I think you’re right. I never named any car. When I talk affectionately to a car, I always address it as “Car”.

Is naming a car a chick-thing? Some kinda maternal instinct? I mean if a guy plants a moniker on his car, it’s usually the name of some girl who was easy and fast, right?
